The X Factor: Liam Payne puts on cosy display with Cheryl-lookalike singer during duet for Polaroid... which he was 'originally meant to perform with ex-girlfriend'

He was reportedly meant to duet with Cheryl on his song Polaroid - a collaboration that failed since the pair split in July.

But Liam Payne, 25, apparently opted for the next best thing when he performed the new track with singer Lennon Stella, who fans insisted looks like Cheryl's 'double'.

The One Direction star sent viewers into meltdown when he took to the stage with 19-year-old Lennon - who boasts long dark locks and a sunkissed glow similar to Cheryl's - on The X Factor results show on Sunday night.

Seeing double: Liam Payne put on a cosy display with Cheryl-lookalike singer Lennon Stella during a duet for Polaroid... which he was 'originally meant to perform with ex-girlfriend'

Canada native Lennon, who has starred on TV show Nashville since 2012, certainly bore more than a passing resemblance to Cheryl thanks to her full lips and dark eyes.

She and Liam performed their song Polaroid alongside producer Jonas Blue and appeared to have great stage chemistry.

Viewers flocked to social media to remark on Lennon's resemblance to Cheryl, with one writing: 'That chick doing a duet with Liam Payne is almost Cheryl’s double.'

Another added: 'Really wtf is going on with stupid head Liam on xfactor maybe I'm losing my sight was it cheryl?'

Meanwhile, Liam looked extremely close with Rita Ora - who has split from beau Andrew Watt - back in August at the MTV VMAs kickoff concert in New York.

In exclusive footage obtained by DailyMail.com, filmed by fan Michal Jacobs, 22, the hunk was seen with his arms draped over Rita's shoulders as she stood in front of him.

Michal, from Englewood, New Jersey, said: 'I was standing right at the front and at the end Liam and Rita were standing by the side and dancing together.

'They were standing there talking, laughing, smiling and dancing. She was in front of him and his arms were wrapped around her.'
